CANCER HAS BECOME THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR FIREFIGHTERS!
Between 2002 and 2017 61% of firefighter deaths were attributed to occupational cancer. FIREFIGHTERS have a 9 % greater chance of getting cancer than their civilian counterparts, and a 14% increased risk of dying from that cancer.
The FireK mission: 1) Support the individual financial needs of firefighting families battling cancer, 2) Provide no-cost preemptive screenings to firefighters that meets NFPA and IAFC recommendations, 3) Connect firefighters with the resources they need to prevent, reduce, and battle cancer risks.
